Hi there! =D I'm Hyper, welcome to GB! Enjoy Your Stay ?
Just finished uploading my 18 PS2 games to the HDD. All thats left are the dual-layered games (Xenosaga and MGS2:Substance), then i'll have everything ready to play at the touch of a button. I'll put those on it via setting up a LAN with my PS2, and transferring them across (avoiding TOC the diagnosis).
So, where did you buy this HD system? What HD does it use? What about double layer support?
I bought an 120Gb HD used off ebay for ?35. I originally got a Maxtor brand, but it turned out to be faulty, so i simply requested a replacement (which ended up being a Samsung - a much more reliable make). There are a fair number of compatible makes around, most are listed here. The most compatible makes for this kind of thing are Hitachi and Maxtor. The official PS2 HDD also works a charm, although thats only 40Gb, and probably not going to be released in europe.
As for the program, i used HDadvance, a slightly more up-to-date version of HDLoader. All the details on what it does, and the requirements are there if your interested.
As for dual layered games, HDAdvance will let you play them, but you cant copy them to your PS2 HDD with the program. Instead, to achieve this, you can just install software onto your PS2 HDD via a custom made CD-R (using the HDA first), which will enable you to establish a LAN connection between the PS2 and your PC.
From there, you can transfer anything you want, from SNES roms and emulators, to OS's and various movie/image viewing applications. Its all down to what you can produce on your PC before you send it over. In the case of Xenosaga, you just flatten the dual layered disc on the PC, slap on a PAL region coding, and then send it across.
To do this, im relying on the exploitstation website to provide me with all the applications and tutorials necassary. Its interesting stuff, if a bit long-winded for newcomers to the whole HDD exploit scene. But i think it'll be worth it.
